John R. Costa

U.S. Veteran

FRPD Lt. John Robert Costa, Ret., age 65, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 22, 2012. He was the husband of Jeannine (Baraby) Costa. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late John Costa and the late Mary (Pires) Costa. A lifelong resident of Fall River, he retired from the Fall River Police Department in 2002 after 27 years of service to this community. John served his country in the Vietnam War as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army and also served as a Military Police Officer in the United States Air Force Reserve. His favorite pastime was spent in the company of his family and friends. He was an avid New England Patriots fan and enjoyed computer gaming with his grandsons whom he lovingly referred to as "his boys". In addition to his wife, Jeannine, he leaves two daughters: Michele Costa of Fall River and Judith Earle, and her husband Stanley, of Westport; a brother, Michael Costa of Fall River; five grandsons: Ryan Patrick Bolger and Liam Sean Bolger of Fall River, and Roy-Allen Langton, II, Bradley John Langton, and Ian Arthur Langton of Westport. He leaves a brother-in-law William Baraby (husband of Pauline) and a sister-in-law Lucy Baraby (wife of the late Norman Baraby) along with several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was the brother-in-law of the late Rita Martin.
