Adelaide (Sousa) Mateus, 92, of Fall River, wife of the late Serafim Mateus, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, July 18th, 2010, at St. Anne's Hospital. Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Jose de Melo and Maria do Espirito Santo (Pereira) Sousa, she was raised in Lomba de Santa Barbara in Sao Miguel, returning to Fall River in 1960. She was employed at various factories including the former Chace Curtain until her retirement. She lived on Middle Road in Portsmouth for many years where she and her husband had a dairy farm. She was a choir member at Jesus Saviour Catholic Church in Newport, RI for 20 years and also at the former Our Lady of Health Church. She returned to Fall River in 2002 and was a member of St. Michael's Parish. She is survived by her daughter Mary Isabel Machado (husband Jose) and grandsons Kevin Joseph Machado (wife Pamela) and Derek Matthew Machado (fiancée Heather Munroe) all of Fall River. She also leaves her sister Rose Alves (husband Joe) of Bristol, RI, and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. She was also sister of the late Maria da Conceicao Mendonca and Jose de Melo Sousa. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, June 21, in Espirito Santo Church followed by committal services at Notre Dame Cemetery.
