Afonso C.
Camara
d. Dec 25, 2021
Afonso C. Camara, 80, of Fall River, passed away peacefully on Christmas Day, December 25, 2021 at home following a brief illness. He was the husband of Matilde (Pereira) Camara who passed away shortly after him on January 14th. They were married for 52 years. Born in Ajuda da Bretanha, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Jose Carlos Camara and the late Maria Teresa (Pavao) Camara.
Prior to his retirement he worked in landscaping for many years. He loved gardening, playing cards, and trips to the casino. He also enjoyed tending to his grapevines and making his own jam. He was a long-time member of Banda da Nossa Senhora da Conceicao Moisterence Band where he played the saxophone. But what was most important to Afonso was spending quality time with all his family.
He leaves his children, Victor M. Camara and his wife, Linda, Inez Camara and her long-time companion, Brandon Young, both of Fall River, Michael A. Camara and his husband, Erik Strzempko, of Providence, Rhode Island, and Sandra Doyle and her husband, Michael, and Theresa Greaves and her husband, Benjie, both of Fall River; his eleven grandchildren, Jorden Camara, Christian Camara, Evan Camara, Victoria Camara, Julian Boutin, Liam Greaves, Sebastian Greaves, Lincoln Doyle, Emma Young, Atticus Doyle, and Draven Doyle; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Carlos Camara, Maria Raposo, Ermelinda Carvalho, Mariana Arruda, Manuel Camara, Jose Camara, and Angelo Camara.
Their Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, January 20th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by their committal at Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly pray for Afonso and Matilde by having a Mass said in their honor.
Family members are always grateful for relatives and friends wishing to make in-person expressions of kindness and support. If you were unable to do so, because of this pandemic or any other reason, all are urged to express their sympathy online or by mail. To ensure that said condolences and/or sympathy cards reach the family, please always make sure that submissions online are made directly through the funeral home's website ( www.silvafaria.com ) and not through a third party. Thank you!
