Obituary

Rev. Agostinho de Sousa Pacheco, age 75, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2014, in Toronto, Canada. Born in the village of Sao Vincente Ferreira, on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores, he was a son of the late Manuel T. Pacheco and the late Maria C. Sousa. After completing his religious education, and was ordained as a priest, Fr. Pacheco received his first assignments in the village of Lages, on the island of Terceira, and in Sao Cruz, Ribeiras on the island of Pico. The Pacheco family moved to Fall River in 1968 and Fr. Pacheco followed his family to the United States, eventually moving to Canada after serving at several parishes in Massachusetts. He retired recently from Our Lady of Fatima Church in Brampton, Ontario, Canada. Services were held in Toronto, Canada, on Monday, November 17, 2014, in St. Mary Church, the parish where Fr. Pacheco served for thirty three years. Surviving family members include two brothers; Ernest Tavares and James Sousa Tavares, and two sisters; Leonor Ventura and Ilda Sousa, all of Fall River, and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Joao Tavares, Manuel Tavares, Luis Tavares, Jose Sousa, Maria Isabel Alberto, Maria R. Paiva, Christina Lima and Zelmira Bernardo. A Funeral Mass was also celebrated here in Fall River at Espirito Santo Church on November 24, followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
