Aires Bettencourt, 72, of Fall River, husband of Alda (Melo) Bettencourt, passed away peacefully on Monday surrounded by his family. Born in Ponta Delgada, St.Michael, Azores, son of the late Manuel and Maria (Pacheco) Bettencourt. He enjoyed going on long Sunday rides, especially to the water. A devout Catholic, he served as Eucharistic Minister for many years at St. Anthony of Padua Church where he was also a member of the Holy Name Society. Spending time with his family, particularly his grandchildren, was most important to him. He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, his children: David M. Bettencourt (wife-Jenny) and their daughter Amelia, and twins Jason M. Bettencourt (wife-Anita) and their daughter, Judea and Lisa M. Vieira (husband-Richy) and their daughter, Lacey, all of Fall River; brothers: Carlos and Manuel Bettencourt of Toronto, Canada; and many nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, August 19th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
