Aires V. Da Costa, 87, passed away peacefully at home in Fall River surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, May 10, 2011. He was the loving husband of the late Idalina (Garcia) Da Costa (died March 13, 2011). Born in Furnas, São Miguel, Azores, son of the late Manuel and Maria da Gloria (Viveiros) Da Costa, resided in Fall River since emigrating in March 1960. While living in the Azores, he taught music and played the baritone, trumpet, and French horn for a marching band and the military band at Ponta Delgada, and served in the Portuguese Army. He enjoyed gardening, doing word searches, music, and being with his family. Before retiring in December 1989 as a packer at Vistawall (formerly Aluminline) in Rhode Island for 25 years, he was a master mason by trade. He was a member and former treasurer of the St. Anthony Band, and a member of the Holy Name Society at St. Anthony of Padua. He was the wonderful father to Gino Costa (wife-Mary Lou), Marie Gloria Soares (husband-Carlos) & Paula Costa Cullen (husband-Charles) all of Fall River, Joe Costa (wife-Evelina) & Carlos Costa (wife-Cindy) both of Somerset, and the late Idalina "Linda" Da Costa; the loving grandfather to Eric (wife-Brittany), Bradford, Brittany, Austin & Sabrina Costa, and Natasha & Sarah Soares. He was the brother of the late Laura DeSa, Antonio, Rolando, Ernesto and Alfredo Da Costa. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. His funeral Mass was celebrated in St Anthony of Padua Church. He was laid to rest at St Patrick Cemetery in Fall River.
