Aires M. Varao, 45, of Barlow Street in Fall River, passed away on Thursday, September 20, at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, following an illness. He was the husband of Dina M. (Da Cunha) Varao. Born on the island of St. Michael in the Azores, he was a son of Guilherme S. Varao and Julieta (Rego) Varao of Fall River. After residing in the Azores for seven years, the family moved to Fall River in 1969 and he was later naturalized as a citizen of the United States. Employed as a laboratory technician in the textile trade for many years, he worked at the former Merchandise Testing Laboratories. Aires was a communicant of Espirito Santo Church in Fall River. In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by two sons, Jason P. Varao and Jonathan Varao, a brother, Steve Varao, a sister Alice J. Cavanaugh, and several nieces and nephews, all of Fall River. Following cremation, his Memorial Mass was offered on Saturday, September 29, at Espirito Santo Church. Father James Ferry was celebrant.
