Obituary

Albano R. Braga, 80, of Westport, husband of Lucia (Lima) Braga, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, February 26, 2022 at Charlton Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Ribeira Quente, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Antonio Braga and the late Maria de Espirito Santo Rego.

Prior to his retirement, he was a commercial hand-line fisherman and owned and operated, along with his son who was his "right hand man", his own vessel, the "C Hawk" for many years. An avid Benfica fan, he also loved playing cards, dominos, tending to his chickens, and watching Portuguese soap operas with his wife. Albano enjoyed traveling back to his homeland and, most importantly, spending quality time with all his family. He was a devoted and loyal husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

Besides his loving wife of fifty-six years, he leaves his children, Nadia Braga of New Bedford, Albert Braga and his wife, Erika, of Westport, and Emanuel Braga and his long-time companion, Kimberly Furtado, of Westport; his 5 grandchildren and 8.5 great-grandchildren; his sister, Encarnacao Linhares (late husband, Joao) of the Azores; his two brothers, Antonio Braga and his wife, Rosaria, and Jorge Braga and his wife, Madelana, both of the Azores; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Ernesto Braga and the late Euralia Raposo.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, March 5th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
