Albert Mendes, 74, formerly of Taunton, Westport & Fall River, died Thursday after a long illness. Companion of Karen Woolley. Born in Fall River, son of the late Alberto and Clara (Taveira) Mendes. He worked at Taunton State Hospital for over 30 years and prior to his illness he worked at Wal-Mart in Raynham for 10 years. In his youth he played for the Ponta Delgada Club Soccer Team. Father of Michael J. Mendes, Sr. (wife Carolyn) of Tiverton, Louise Nicoletti (husband Joseph) of Westport & the late John A. Mendes. Brother of Mary Lu Silvia of Fall River, Fernanda Mello & Natalie Platt, both of Asheville, NC, and the late Joseph Mendes & Laura Noverca. Grandfather of Michael J. Mendes, Jr., Amanda T. Mendes, Gina and Jon Nicoletti, and the late Jared J. Mendes. He also leaves his former wife, Beatrice A Mendes and several nieces and nephews including his only godchild, Richard Mendes. His funeral mass was offered on Monday, (11/19) in Our Lady of Grace Church. The celebrant was Father Horace Travassos. Committal services followed at St Patrick Cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael Mendes, Sr., Michael Mendes, Jr., Joseph Nicoletti, Richard Mendes, David Peterson and Greg Skelly.
