Alberto S. Damaso, 86, of Fall River, husband of Ligia (da Costa) Damaso, passed away at home surrounded by family on Sunday, May 24, 2020, after an extended illness. Born in Ponta Delgada, St. Michael, Azores, a son of the late Jose De Sousa Damaso and the late Evangelina (Patricio) De Sousa, he emigrated to Fall River in 1966.
A construction laborer for many years with Union Local 271, he had also been employed with Narragansett Improvement Co. for 27 years, retiring in the late 1990s. A codfish fisherman in Portugal, Alberto had a great passion for fishing throughout his life and also enjoyed gardening and tending his grape vines. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Besides his wife, of 64 years, he is survived by: three children, Ana Frias (husband Joseph) of Westport, Carlos A. Damaso (wife Tina) of Westport, and Elizabeth Damaso of Fall River; five grandchildren, David Frias, Joseph A. Frias, Albert Frias, Deserie Damaso, and Chelsea Damaso; five great grandchildren, Tiana Frias, Amelia Frias, Logan Frias, Aura Frias, and Ava Frias; and many nieces & nephews. He was also the brother of the late Manuel De Sousa, Francisco Damaso, Raul De Sousa, Anibal De Sousa, and Maria I. Martins.
Due to the COVID pandemic, a private funeral was held on Thursday, May 28th, from our Fall River Chapel followed by his private committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
When the current crisis has abated enough for large gatherings to again take place, Alberto's family is planning to arrange for the offering of a Memorial Funeral Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church, to which extended family, friends and the public will be invited – and details will be announced here.
Family members are always grateful for relatives and friends wishing to make in-person expressions of kindness and support. Being unable to do so, because of this pandemic, all are urged to express sympathy online or by mail.
To ensure that said condolences reach the family, please always make sure that submissions online are made directly through the funeral home's website ( www.silvafaria.com ) and not through a third party. Thank you!
