Obituary

Alcide "Al" G. Morrell, 85, of West Palm Beach, Florida and formerly of Fall River, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday. He was the husband of Janice M. (Larrivee) Morrell, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. Born in Fall River, son of the late Elie and Lena (Sullivan) Morrell. He was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy. A long and respected career in heavy construction, he was President of the Fall River and New Bedford Building Trades, Vice President of the Mass State Building Trades, member and past Chairman of the Fall River Housing Authority, and member of the Board of Election Commission. He also served as Business Representative Local 4 of (IUOE) International Union of Operating Engineers for 30 years and was a member in good standing of Local 4 for 65 years. For 34 years, he was Chairman of Local 4 Pension Fund and also served as its Recording Secretary and Executive Board Member. An avid golfer, he served as the Golf Chairman and Executive Board Member of the Fall River Country Club, then in Florida, served as the Golf Chairman at Bear Lakes Country Club. A past lector at the Holy Name Church for eleven years, he was currently lector at Mary Immaculate Church in West Palm Beach, FL. Besides his wife, Al is survived by his children, Nancy Sullivan, Michael and Deborah Morrell, Suzanne and Bruce Morell, Stephen Morrell, Gail and James Kennedy, Timothy and Dawn Morrell and Christine and Timothy Rouse; brother, Elie Morrell; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Maurice Morrell. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, March 14, in Holy Name Church followed by his committal with military honors at St. Patrick Cemetery.
