Alcina "Elsie" Faria, 92, passed away on Monday, the day that would have been her 73rd wedding anniversary. She was the wife of the late Anibal Faria, with whom she enjoyed many years of traveling, playing cards, going out to dinner, dancing, entertaining and socializing throughout their happy 68-year marriage. Born in Madeira, daughter of the late Carlos and Maria (Gomes) Pimenta, she has been a resident of Fall River since her arrival at the age of one with her parents, older siblings and uncle. A homemaker for most of her life, she was a loving wife, devoted mother and proud grandmother. She was an expert seamstress who also liked to crochet, read, and spend time with her family and friends. Elsie is survived by three children, Judith Faria of San Francisco, CA, Ray Faria of Friendship, ME and Joyce Faria of Fall River; Lois Faria (Daughter-in-law) and Beth Canulla, both of whom she thought of as daughters; beloved grandchildren, Jon Faria, Jenny Gaghan and Nicole Piscionere; great grandsons Jacob, Silas and Noah; and several nephews. She was also sister of the late Palmira Souza, Zel Still, Charles, Edward, Hilda and Lionel Pimenta. Those she leaves behind will remember her humor, strength, independent spirit and sweet tooth. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, September 9, in Holy Rosary Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to Sarah S. Brayton Nursing Center, 4901 N. Main St., Fall River, MA 02720 or the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
