Obituary

Alfred Gonsalves, 97, of Fall River, passed away at Kimwell Nursing and Rehabilitation on Thursday, December 26, 2024. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Joseph Gonsalves and the late Mary (Rodriques) Gonsalves.

A US Army veteran who served honorably during the Korean Conflict, Alfred worked for many years on the clerical staff for US Naval records at the Newport Naval Base.

Alfred loved many people and was loved by many people. He was always kind, caring, and personable not only to his immediate family, but also to extended family and his friends, including the staff at Kimwell where he lived during the latter portion of his life. He was a good, loving son to his mother, particularly after her husband passed away. He consistently took his mother on outings on Sunday afternoons. He even took her to a Red Sox game during the World Series in 1975.

He always kept his prayer book and rosary with him wherever he went at the nursing home and was holding both when he passed away.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews, including his caregiver, Joseph J. Gonsalves of Alpharetta, GA. Alfred was predeceased by his two brothers, Joseph Gonsalves Jr. and John Goncalves.

His Funeral  Mass was celebrated on Saturday, January 4th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Alfred's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; 800-805-5856; https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html .
