Obituary

Alfred P. "Gramps" Medeiros, 79, of Somerset, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Friday. Husband of Marie (Medeiros) Medeiros, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage. Born in Newport, RI, son of the late Manuel and Mary (Pereira) Medeiros Botelho. A Korean War veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he was a proud recipient of the National Defense Service, United Nations Service, Korean Service and Navy Occupation Service Medals. He was also a member of the Marine Corps Legion in Somerset. Gramps was a Somerset resident for 30 years, was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and coached little and senior league baseball. He greatly enjoyed spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren play sports. Survivors include sons, Michael, Robert (wife – Debra) and Kevin Medeiros, all of Somerset; a daughter, Karen Stukus (husband – Matthew) of Somerset; a sister, Hilda Guilmette of Somerset; grandchildren, Joey (wife - Nicole), Melanie, Erika, Jonathan, Shane, Brooke, Dallas and Tyler; 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Mary Delores Machado, Natalie Miranda, Manuel and Edward Botelho. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, October 3, in St. Patrick Church followed by his committal with full military honors at St. Patrick Cemetery in Somerset.
