Alfred P. Ponte, 84, formerly of Pokross St., Fall River, passed away Thursday, June 23, at Sarah Brayton Nursing Center. Husband of the late Alice (Ferreira) Ponte. Born in Fall River, son of the late Abilio and Maria Beatrice (Mello) Ponte. An Army Veteran of WW II, he served with the military police in the Phillipines. A baker by trade, he worked at the former Steve's Donuts for over 30 years and then at Leddy's Bakery. He loved ballroom dancing. Fred is survived by his son, Paul W. Ponte, stepdaughters, Nancy A. Moniz and Gail Ward; grandchildren, Jonathan Moniz, Ryan Sylvia and Kristen Sylvia; a brother, Arthur P. Ponte and several nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Sally Arruda. His cremation was private. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Memorial Mass on Friday at 9:00 AM in Good Shepherd Parish Church, corner of So. Main and Slade Sts. www.silvafaria.com
