Alfredo "Red" Oliveira, age 75, passed away at home in Fall River on Wednesday, December 23, 2009, following a brief illness. He was the husband of Rose (Silva) Oliveira. Born in Santa Barbara Alem Capelas, on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores, he was a son of the late Manuel Oliveira and the late Mariana (Anastacio) Oliveira. After living in the Azores for 24 years and serving in the Portuguese Army, Mr. Oliveira moved to America in 1958. He was naturalized as a citizen of his adopted country in 1963 and would reside in Fall River for 52 years. He was employed in the construction trade for 38 years as a crew foreman with the Narragansett Improvement Co. of Providence, RI, until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of LIUNA, Local 673. A communicant of Espirito Santo Church, he was also a member of the Holy Ghost Society and Our Lady of Light Society and Band Club. Mr. Oliveira enjoyed traveling, working hard, tending to his vine and garden, and most especially helping and spending time with his family and many friends. In addition to Rose, his wife of 52 years, surviving family members include his two daughters, Mrs. Steven (Rosemarie) Reis of North Dartmouth, MA, and Mrs. Brian (Maryann) Mendoza of Tiverton, RI, four grandchildren, Courtney Reis, Julienne Reis, Eric Mendoza and Haley Mendoza, five brothers and three sisters, Maria do Carmo Oliveira Reis and Joao Oliveira, both of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Luis Oliveira, Armanda Souza, Carlos Oliveira and Antonio Oliveira, all of Fall River, Isabel Medeiros of Somerset, MA, and Jose Maria Oliveira of Swansea, MA, and many nieces and nephews. His funeral Mass was celebrated in Espirito Santo Church. Committal service was held at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Fall River.
