Alia Cordeiro, age 72, of Fall River, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2010, at St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River, following an extended illness. She was the wife of Federico Cordeiro. Born in the village of Candelaria, on the island of Sao Miguel in the Azores, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Carvalho and the late Ermina (Botelho) Carvalho. After residing in the Azores for twenty eight years, she moved to Fall River in1968 and labored in the garment trade of this city for many years. A member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, she was employed as a seamstress and presser at the former Stella Ann Frocks, and several other shops, until her retirement in 2002. In addition to her husband, surviving family members include her two sons, Joseph Ferreira of Westport, MA, and Mario Ferreira of Fall River, a sister, Georgina Carvalho of Fall River, five grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Gilbert Ferreira. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, July 28, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by committal services at Oak Grove Cemetery.
