Altina (Guimaraes) Vital passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the age of 93. Born in Vilarinho, Portugal, she came to the United States at five years of age and was a lifelong resident of Westport, Massachusetts, until moving to the Southeast Mass Health & Rehabilitation Center in New Bedford. Altina was wife of the late Manuel R. Vital and daughter of the late Joao and Esperanca Guimaraes, formerly of Westport. She is survived by her sister Aida Luiz of Tires, Portugal and was predeceased by her two brothers Manuel and Dennis Guimaraes and her sister Maria Correia. Altina is survived by her two sons, Paul Vital of Norton, MA, and Ronald Vital of Dartmouth, and two granddaughters Lisa Bertuola of Wayne, PA, and Jennifer Green of Clinton, MA. Altina was the loving great grandmother of four; Gabbie and Sofia Bertuola, and Aiden and Christian Green. Her family will always cherish her loving and giving nature, inner strength and sense of humor. Altina was a long time employee of the Westport School Department, serving as the Cafeteria Manager at the Alice A. Macomber Elementary School prior to her retirement. She was an active member of Our Lady of Grace Parish and a member of the St. John's quilting group. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, May 13, in Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport, followed by her committal at St Patrick's Cemetery in Fall River.
