Alvaro Ponte, Jr., 85, formerly of Mt. Hope Ave., passed away Tuesday after a long illness. Husband of Mary (Miller) Ponte. Born in Fall River, son of the late Alvaro and Maria (Jerome) da Ponte. A member of Teamsters Local 251, Al was a truck driver for Yellow Freight for many years. An avid golfer, he was a member of Montaup Country Club. He was also a member of the VFW and Elks. Beloved father of Carla Starr (husband-Peter) of Saunderstown, RI, Lisa Davey of Tiverton and Richard Ponte of Portsmouth; grandfather of Christopher (wife-Sarah) and Ryan Bagley, Shealyn Davey, Daniel Starr and Lindsey Ponte; great grandfather of Fallon and Cailin Bagley; brother of the late David Pontes, Charles and Alfred Ponte and Norma Deitzel. He also leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins. His Funeral Service was held on Monday, July 27th, in our Fall River Chapel followed by his committal with military honors at St. Patrick Cemetery.
