Alvaro M. Silva, 79, of Assonet, husband of Mary Jose F. (Amaral), died at home Tuesday after a long illness. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and raised in Agua Retorta, St. Michael, Azores, son of the late Antonio and Silvana (Rezendes) Silva, he emigrated to Fall River in 1950 and resided in Assonet for the past 33 years. A member of the Knights of Columbus, he enjoyed fishing, traveling and gardening. Besides his wife of 56 years, he leaves: children, Paul A. Silva of Sarasota, FL, Beverly A. Kenney and David A. Silva both of Assonet; a sister, Arina Melo of St. Michael, Azores; grandchildren, Melissa Ouellette, Stephanie and Benjamin Freitas, great grandson Jacob Michael Ouellette, several nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Lurdes Resendes and Nair Costa. His Funeral Mass was offered on Friday (10/2) in St Bernard Church in Assonet followed by a committal service at St. Patrick Cemetery.
