Alzira Silva's Obituary
Alzira Silva, 94, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully at the Hathaway Manor Nursing Home on January 24
th
with her entire family by her side.
She was the widow of Manuel Silva and they resided in Fall River where they raised their seven children.
She was born and lived in Sao Miguel, Azores prior to emigrating to Fall River with their young family in 1969. She was the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Cabral) Moniz.
Alzira was a true matriarch of her large extended family. She worked tirelessly as a homemaker providing support, love and guidance to her children with her late husband. At various times she worked in the local textile industry in Fall River to help support their growing family.
Her greatest joy was being at large family events, but she also loved to cook, play cards, and take occasional trips to the casino with her daughters. Her artistic talents were shown in the crocheted masterpieces she lovingly made for her children and grandchildren .
She is survived by her seven adoring children and their families: Jorge (Lynn) Silva of Fall River, Fernanda (Joao) Silva, Eusebia (Agostinho) Silva and Eulalia (Carlos) Couto all of Westport, Lucia (Thomas) Burke and Mary Jo (Ronald) Holley both of Dartmouth, and Humberto (Eva) Silva of Fairhaven; thirteen loving grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews. Alzira was predeceased by five siblings, her infant son Samuel, and was the grandmother of the late Derek Silva.
Calling hours were Sunday, January 28, 2018, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Silva-Faria Funeral Home, 730 Bedford St, Fall River. Her funeral was held Monday January 29 th at 9:30 AM from the funeral home, with a Mass offered in the Good Shepherd Parish Church, Fall River, at 10:30. Committal Service and Interment followed at Notre Dame Cemetery.
