Obituary

Amos Rego, 79, of Fall River, husband of Catherine (Van Cala) Rego, passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Brighton. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Manuel Bernardo Rego and the late Mary (Reis) Rego.

Amos was employed as a police officer with the City of Fall River Police Department for over 30 years, retiring in 2006. He was a graduate of BMC Durfee High School and later went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Anna Maria College. Amos served in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and received several commendations including three Purple Hearts. Quite the handyman, he enjoyed tinkering in his garage, fixing things around the house, and maintaining his vintage automobile – a 1965 Ford Falcon. He was also fond of watching classic western movies and enjoying time with his cats. Amos was a proud husband and father, and his love of a good meal was eclipsed only by the love for his family.

Besides his wife, of 42 years, he is survived by: three children, Brian Rego of Chino Hills, California; Jennifer Rego of Georgetown, Texas; and Renee Rego of Dartmouth, MA; a sister, Rose Davis of Swansea; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Manuel Rego, Alice Rice, Mary Rego, William Rego, Hilda DeCarlo, Louis Rego, Mary Smith, Anna Beaty, Edward Rego, George Rego, Delores Bensel, Milton Rego, Thomas Rego, and Raymond Rego.

His Funeral Service was held on Thursday, April 14th, during calling hours in our Fall River Chapel. A private cremation followed. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Amos' memory to the Police Athletic League of Fall River, 31 Franklin Street, Fall River, MA 02720-3103; 508-672-9197; www.PALFallRiver.org .
