Obituary

Ana Maria (Silva) Larrivee, age 58, of Westport, Massachusetts, passed away at home on Monday, March 10, 2014. A resident of Westport for over thirty years, she was the wife of Gary Larrivee. Born in Fall River, she was the youngest daughter of the Honorable Milton R. Silva of Swansea, and the late Mary C. (Gaspar) Silva. Employed in the Westport School Department for seven years, Ana was recently promoted to Executive Secretary to the Special Education Director. However, before she could transition to the position and occupy her new office space, she was forced into retirement due to her illness. She was also employed as the accounting clerk of her family funeral business, Silva-Faria Funeral Homes, and was formerly a team leader of inventory specialists with RGIS for many years. Ana attended Elmhurst Academy in Portsmouth, RI, until they closed the school in 1971, then she transferred to the Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, in Bethesda, MD. After graduating from Stone Ridge in 1973 she moved to Brazil to study and nurture her creative side. A talented artist, she enjoyed ceramic painting, needlepoint, embroidery, and was especially known for her knitting and design skills. She worked with her sister Tina for several years at "Stitchin' Time" knitting/yarn shop located in Fall River, then Providence, before eventually operating her own shop for a time in Westport (former "Village Yarns" in Central Village); she was also a partner in a children's clothing and accessories shop called Sabrina's of Westport.  Ana had also been involved with the Westport Scouting program, volunteering as a den mother and planning Cub Scout events; as well as with the Westport Music Boosters, helping on fundraisers. She had various other jobs in her younger days, including: Fall River District Court, former US Records of Somerset, Friendly's, White's of Westport (waitressing), and Andy's (bartending) on the beach in Westport. Ana also participated in Westport town politics, with membership in the Westport Republican Town Committee. A sixties flower child turned earth mother; Ana was a natural, fun-loving beauty, a great friend to many, always young at heart and full of life. A positive energy, she enjoyed music and dancing, and good times were sure to be had when she was around. In addition to her husband, of 21 years, and father, surviving family members include her son Robert Larrivee of Westport; a brother Paul (wife Filomena) of Fall River, sister Christine 'Tina' LaFranchi (husband Larry) of Winthrop, MA, and brothers Richard (wife Donna), and Martin (wife Kathi) Silva, both of Somerset. Ana also leaves nieces, nephews, cousins, & and two aunts. Following cremation, relatives and friends attended a Memorial "Celebration of Life" Service on March 22, 2014, at the Silva-Faria Funeral Home.
