Obituary

Andrew R. Carlino, 85, of Swansea, passed away   Tuesday at the Catholic Memorial Home after a brief illness. Born in Fall River, son of the late Simmio and Lucy (Tamborella) Carlino. He worked at the Newport Naval Base before joining the US Navy as a Seaman 1st Class aboard the USS Hallagan in WWII. He participated in the invasion of Saipan, and the battles at Guam, the Phillipines, and Iwo Jima until his ship was sunk off the coast of Okinawa. During his service his ship received 6 Battle Stars and he was the recipient of a Purple Heart. After his discharge in 1946, he worked 25 years for Firestone in Fall River and 15 years for Pawtucket Memorial Hospital. He resided in Swansea since 1958 and retired in 1986. He was a life member for 30 years with the Knights of Columbus, Swansea, MA - Council 3669, he was also a brief member of the Elks Club Fall River and the Disabled American Vets. Mr. Carlino is survived by his sisters, Christina Otrando of Attleboro and Lucy Teiceira of Swansea, and several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Cecilia Hannafin, Alfred Carlino, Theresa King and Anthony Carlino. His Funeral Mass was offered on Saturday (4/17) in St. Thomas More Church followed by a committal service at Notre Dame Cemetery.
