Andrew W. Cook, 96, formerly of Tiverton, passed away on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at Clifton Rehabilitation Nursing Center. His wife and best friend, the late Edna D. (Coleman) Cook, predeceased him in 1997. Born in Clearwater, Minnesota, he was a son of the late James Cook and the late Bessie (Aldrich) Cook.

He was employed for many years in the construction industry as a mason, and was a member of the Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen Union, Local #39. A highly decorated United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, he was awarded his first Purple Heart for wounds sustained during the Gilbert Islands Occupation, in November of 1943.In lieu of a second Purple Heart, he was awarded a Gold Star for his actions and wounds sustained at Saipan, Marianas Islands in June of 1944. Mr. Cook was also very active in the Boy Scouts, Troop 18 associated with the former Immaculate Conception Church, volunteering in many capacities over fifty years – from troop leader to institutional representative.

Survivors include: five children, Eileen R. Cook of Tiverton RI, Kathleen M. McMann (husband Richard) of Fall River, Elizabeth A. Spence (husband Richard) of Westport, Christine E. Murray (husband Richard) of Rockport MA, and Michael E. Cook (wife Patricia) of Somerset; nine grandchildren, Joel, Ian, Jessica, Colin, Jennifer, Jonathan, Andrew, Ryan, and Ashlee; twelve great grandchildren, Cole, Abigail, Madison, Aidan, Caleb, Emma, William, Henry, Zachary, Alex, Nicholas, and Hayden; and many nieces & nephews. He was also father the late Paul A. Cook; and a brother of the late Harriet Kurek, James Cook, Ruth Hakes, George Cook, Elsie Webb, Walter Cook, and John Cook.

His Funeral Service with military honors was held on Saturday, June 23rd, following calling hours in our Fall River Chapel. Private cremation followed.
