Angela D. (Mateus) Gomes, 94, passed away on Sunday, at the Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. She was recently widowed from her late husband, Armando B. Gomes, on October 3, 2007. Born in the village of Mosteiros, on the west coast of the Azorean Island of Sao Miguel, she was a daughter of the late Luis Mateus and the late Mariana (Raposo) Mateus. She continued to reside on Sao Miguel for a brief time after her marriage before moving to Angola. In 1969 she left Africa to immigrate to Fall River. A naturalized citizen of the United States, she was employed as a seamstress in the garment trade for many years at the former M & G Sportswear until her retirement. Mrs. Gomes was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. She is survived by two sons, Luis Gomes and Armando D. Gomes, both of Fall River, a sister, Gabriella Mateus of Sao Miguel, two grandchildren, Derek Gomes and Christina Gomes, both of Fall River, and several nieces & nephews. Her Funeral Mass was offered on Wednesday (11/14) in St. Anthony of Padua Church. The celebrant was Father Brian Albino. Committal services followed at Notre Dame Cemetery. Pallbearers were Matthew Moniz, Rick Bielowski, Peter Mathieu, Jose Sousa, Jose Medeiros and Joe Rodrigues.
