Antone J. Cunha, 84, of Fall River, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Medical Center, Brockton after a brief illness. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Antonio J. Cunha and the late Sizaltina (Viveiros) Cunha.
Prior to his retirement in 2000, he was employed in the local textile industry for 44 years as an offset printer with the former Louis Hand [curtain] Manufacturing Company, then with its successor company, Aberdeen formerly of Fall River. He was also a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union ("I.L.G.W.U.") now called UNITE.
An accomplished and award-winning artist, Antone enjoyed painting landscapes and specialized in portraiture. Included among his more famous works, which hang in both private and public collections, is a painting of Robert Kennedy on display at the Kennedy Library. He was a member of the Greater Fall River Art Association, and a member of the former St. Louis Church.
He is survived by: his son & caregiver, Michael Anthony Cunha of Fall River; a nephew (& godchild), Stephen Cunha (wife Darlene) of Bridgewater; and three grandnephews. He was also the brother of the late Julieta Costa and Tiberio V. Cunha.
Due to the COVID pandemic, Tony was laid to rest on Thursday, April 16th, with a private committal service at Notre Dame Cemetery.
