Antone Benevides, Jr., 81, of Fall River, husband of Joan (Silvia) Benevides, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at Charlton Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Born in Fall River, a son of the late Antone Benevides and the late Herminia (Tavares) Benevides, he was a BMC Durfee High School graduate and a lifelong resident of Fall River.

For many years he was employed as a supervisor at U. S. Record formerly of Somerset. Following its closure, he then went to work for the City of Fall River as a custodian in the public school system for over 10 years – retiring in 2009. A U. S. Army Reserve veteran, he served honorably during the Vietnam Era.

A member of the Old Mill Bowling League, he was also involved with the Maplewood Little League, coaching and serving as treasurer for a number of years. In 1979 he cofounded the Farm League and initialized a "Kids First" mentality where individual players' interests came first, and all were ensured equal playing time. An avid fishermen, Tony also enjoyed model train collecting, gardening, and especially spending time with his grandson.

Besides his wife, of 54 years, he is survived by: two children, Marybeth J. Mosher (husband Mark) of Acushnet and Anthony D. Benevides (wife Kathleen) of Fall River; his twin brother, Robert Benevides (wife Jane) of Fall River; a grandson, Noah Anthony Benevides; and several nieces and nephews.

Tony will always be remembered for his capacity for love and caring of family and friends, and for his ever-present easy smile.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, March 9th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his private committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
