Antone "Tony" Souza, age 90, of Somerset, Massachusetts, passed away on Friday, April 2, 2010, at the Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, following an illness. He was the husband of Anna (DeCosta) Souza. Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Manuel Augusto Souza and the late Alexandrina (Cabral) Souza. A World War II Veteran of the United States Army, Tony participated in the D-Day invasion of Normandy, and served through to the Lorraine Campaign liberating France from German occupation. While in the service, he was a cinema operator and loved to watch old movies, especially westerns. He also enjoyed playing cards, fishing, good food, great company, and entertaining others with stories of his life experiences and by playing the accordion and piano. Tony dedicated himself to do God's will as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1961, and died faithful to his convictions. In addition to Anna, his wife of sixty four years, surviving family members include his two daughters, Vivian Castro, and her husband Joseph, of Swansea, MA, and Michelle Rice, and husband Kirk A. of Shreveport, LA; a sister, Blanche Rego of Swansea; three grandchildren, Rodney Castro, Andrew Rice and Stephanie Rice; a great-granddaughter, Aureana Castro; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters. His Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at 10:00 AM in the Silva-Faria Somerset Funeral Home, 84 County Street (Route 138) in Somerset. Burial was held in Nathan Slade Cemetery on Prospect Street in Somerset. Tony was brought to rest by pallbearers Joseph Castro, Rodney Castro, Ted Toppan, Matt Tiplady, John Simons, and Morton Thayer.
