Antonio D. Furtado, 74, of Fall River, husband of Mary Lou (Oliveira) Furtado passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Charlton Memorial Hospital.

Born in Santo Antonio, Ponta Delgada, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Joao Furtado and the late Maria da Conceicao (Pacheco) Furtado.

Besides his loving wife of 50 years, Tony leaves his children, Derek Furtado, of Dartmouth and Kyle Furtado, of Fall River; siblings Salome Miranda (late husband Roberto Miranda, of Azores, and Maria dos Santos Furtado (late husband Jose do Rego). Tony is also lovingly remembered by his several nieces and nephews, along with his extended family and many dear friends. Tony is predeceased by his brothers Jose and Joao Furtado.

Among those who held a very special place in Tony’s heart was his beloved dog, Smokey. Smokey was much more than a pet to Tony; he was loved and cared for like his own child and brought him tremendous happiness and companionship.

Tony will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend whose kindness, generosity, and humble nature touched the lives of so many.

For many years, Tony was the proud owner and operator of Furtado Hardwood Floor Surfacing. A hardworking man who took great pride in his craft, he was dedicated to providing quality work and serving his customers with honesty and care.

Outside of work, Tony found great joy in tending to his fruit trees and vegetable garden. He was a gifted landscaper who took pride in creating and caring for beautiful outdoor spaces. He also enjoyed fishing and traveling to São Miguel, Azores, where he cherished spending time with family and friends.

Tony was devoted to his faith and community. He was an active member of Espírito Santo Church for many years and was especially proud to serve as Mordomo in 2003. He was also a member of the Don Carlos Club and a dedicated volunteer at the Fall River Food Pantry, where his generous spirit and desire to help others were evident.

Tony had a warm and generous heart and a special gift for listening. Friends and family often turned to him for advice, knowing he would listen with patience and understanding. He especially enjoyed the company of older adults, spending time listening to their stories and reminiscing with them about days gone by. Humble by nature, Tony never hesitated to lend a hand or give to someone in need.

A devoted Sporting fan, Tony also treasured the simple pleasures of life—his family, his garden, his friendships, and time spent with those he loved.

Tony’s legacy will live on through the kindness he showed, the advice he shared, the people he helped, and the love he gave so freely. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his Calling Hours to be held in Silva-Faria Funeral Home, 730 Bedford Street, Fall River, on Monday, August 17, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 9:00 am from the Silva-Faria Funeral Home, 730 Bedford St, Fall River, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be offered in Espirito Santo Church at 10:00 am. Committal Service and interment will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery.
