Obituary

Antonio DaCosta, 78, of Fall River, husband of Maria E. (Medeiros) Costa, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, October 14, 2022, after a brief illness. Born in St. Michael, Azores, a son of the late Jose DaCosta and the late Maria A. (Oliveira) DaCosta, he served with the Portuguese Army in Angola, and emigrated to Fall River in 1970.

A construction laborer, and member of Local 271, he was employed with Narragansett Improvements for 39 years – retiring in 2010. Antonio enjoyed gardening, tending his vineyards, making wine, breeding rabbits and birds (parakeets & canaries), and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.

Besides his wife, of 51 years, he is survived by: her daughter, Sandia P. Walsh (husband Terry) of Fall River; four siblings, Urselina DaCosta of Fall River, Jose DaCosta of Swansea, Maria dos Anjos Oliveira of Fall River, and Maria Tereza Amaral of Fall River; two grandsons, Antonio and Brayden, whom he adored to no end; and several nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, October 19th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery both in Fall River.
