Antonio M. Tavares, 66, of Fall River, husband of Maria Jose (Soares) Tavares, died at Charlton Memorial Hospital Friday, July 12, after a short illness. Born in Ponta Delgada, St Michael, Azores, son of Dorvalina (Teves) Tavares of Attleboro and the late Antonio Tavares, he served in the Portuguese Army in Angola, and emigrated to Fall River in 1978. He worked for many years at Swank Mfg of Attleboro. A soccer fan, his favorite team was Benfica. Father of Paul Tavares (companion Jennifer) of Fall River & Nuno Tavares (wife Kimberly) of Westport. Brother of Joao Luis Gaspar, Manuel Tavares and Cidalia Moniz all of Florida, Carlos Gaspar and Gilda Viveiros both of Attleboro, Ana Bulhoes of Pawtucket, RI and the late Liberal Gaspar. Grandfather of Ryan, Austin & Mason Tavares. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, July 17, in Santo Christo Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
