Antonio R. Fernandes, 88, of Fall River, husband of the late Maria (daSilva) Fernandes, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 13, 2019 after a brief illness. Born in Santa Clara, St. Michael, Azores, he was a son of the late Antonio and Maria Santos (Mantel) Fernandes. Prior to his retirement he worked as a machinist at Reed and Barton in Taunton for many years. An avid Benfica fan, he also loved, in his younger days, playing and coaching soccer. Antonio was also a hard worker and an excellent provider for his family. He leaves: his children, Teresina Pereira and her husband, Rogerio, of Somerset, Paula Borge and her husband, Michael, Connie Fernandes, Mario Fernandes, and Joe Roposa and his wife, Donna, all of Fall River; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several siblings; and many nieces and nephews, He was also the brother of the late Joao Fernandes and Ted Raposa and uncle of the late Ted Fernandes, Jr. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, October 17th, in Espirito Sasnto Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery.
