Antonio C. Soares, 75, of Westport, husband of Fernanda (Rodrigues) Soares, passed away at home on Thursday, September 9, 2021, after a long illness. Born in Valour, Vila Pouca de Aguiar, Portugal, a son of the late Armindo Soares and the late Maria dos Anjos Machado Castanheira, he emigrated to Fall River in 1977 and resided in Westport for the past 35 years or so.

A labor foreman in the landscaping industry for many years with Schumacher of West Bridgewater prior to his retirement, he was also a member of the Laborer's Union Local #151 of Cambridge. He was an avid soccer fan and a member of the former Fall River Athletic Club – mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family. In his younger days he served in the Portuguese Air Force.

Besides his wife, of 45 years, he is survived by: two sons, Jose Rodrigues (wife Eunice) of Westport, and Armindo Soares (wife Bethany) of Dartmouth; four siblings, Maria Gloria Cabral of Freetown, Celso Soares of New York, Jose Soares of Westport, and Elisabeth Castanheira of Dartmouth; four grandchildren, Samantha, Tiago, Ronan, and Vivienne; and many nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, September 13th, in Espirito Santo Church followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery in Fall River.
