Aquelino J. Pereira, 87, of Tiverton, RI passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

   Born in Lombinha da Maia, St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Jose Raposo Pereira and Deolinda (Carreira) Pereira and brother of the late Maria Angelina Rodrigues and Lilia Pereira.

   He was the beloved husband of Genoveva (Araujo) Pereira. He and Genoveva shared a deep love and friendship which was the foundation of the beautiful life they built together.

   Aquelino was a hardworking man who carried with him the values he learned growing up in the Azores – hardwork, perseverance, humility, and the importance of family. His strength, dedication and devotion to family, and deep connection to the land shaped a life rich in purpose. Before retiring, he worked as a laborer for local construction company LAL, where he was known for his grit, reliability and dedication. Yet his true passions lived outside the job site. Aquelino was happiest with his hands in the soil, tending to the land– his gardens, trees, and grapevines. He grew an impressive variety of fruits and vegetables including his famous chestnuts which he proudly shared with the community each season at Fall River’s Kennedy Park farmer’s market. He also found joy in making home-made wine from his grapes, pickling peppers and onions from his garden and fishing in Newport or down at Sakonnet Point. These were not just hobbies - they were part of who he was and the simple, fulfilling life he loved.

   To his family, Aquelino was so much more than a hardworking laborer and a man with green thumb. He was the heart and foundation of their home. Together with Genoveva he built a life filled with memories that will be treasured forever.

   He was a loving father to his daughters, eldest Lucy Canuel and her husband Freddie of Westport, and youngest Jenny Galvao and her husband Fernando of Tiverton. His daughters will forever cherish his endless sacrifices, the wisdom he shared, and the way he was always there for them. Always.

   He was a devoted Vovo to his four beloved grandchildren: Mitchell (19), Gwenyth (19), Maxwell (4), and Madison (2). Each one brought a distinct and heartfelt joy to his life. He took great pride in watching them grow and cherished every moment spent with them. The values and traditions he imparted lives on through them.

   Aquelino is also survived by his two nephews, Louis and Mario Rodrigues of Canada, whom he loved dearly.

   Those who knew Aquelino will remember his unwavering work ethic, generous spirit, and his appreciation for life. His family, will remember the devoted husband, father, and grandfather who was the heart of it all.

   Though his hands no longer tend the garden, the seeds he sowed throughout his life, in family and the hearts of those who loved him, will continue to flourish.

   He will be profoundly missed, eternally loved, and forever remembered. 

   Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his Visitation to be held in Silva-Faria Funeral Home, 730 Bedford Street, Fall River, on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, from 8:30 am to 9:30 am.

   His Funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. from Silva-Faria Funeral Home, 730 Bedford Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Church, Tiverton, RI. Committal and Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery.
