Obituary

Arthur C. Aguiar, 75, of Somerset, husband of Maria E. (Machado) Aguiar, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at Beth Israel Hospital after a short illness. A member of the Portuguese Army as a young man, he had served in the Mozambican War of Independence. He emigrated to Fall River in 1971.

Co-owner and manager of Aguiar Landscaping / Construction for many years, Arthur loved working and being outdoors. He enjoyed soccer, hockey, tailgating at Patriot's games, as well as his homemade wine; and he loved being a grandfather. Arthur had a contagious laugh and a great smile that would light up the room.

Besides his wife, he is survived by: four children, David Aguiar (wife Susan) of Bristol, R.I., Joseph Aguiar (wife Christine) of Swansea, Michelle Aguiar Santos (husband Paul) of Somerset, and Ashley Aguiar Botelho (husband Johnathan) of Westport; eight siblings, Odilia Amaral of Somerset, Maria dos Anjos Valido of Westport, Lucia Rocha of Somerset, Natalia Medeiros of Dighton, Belmira Ferro of Somerset, Ana Sebastiao of Somerset, John Aguiar of Swansea, and Henry Aguiar of Fall River; six grandchildren, Cody Aguiar, Sarah Elizabeth Aguiar, Sophia Isabella Aguiar, Emily Kathryn Aguiar, Jaxon Santos, and Myles Santos; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the husband of the late Maria dos Anjos (Cordeiro) Aguiar; and a brother of the late Jose Oliveira and Antonio Aguiar.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, June 9th, at St. John of God Church in Somerset, where Arthur was an active parishioner, followed by his committal at St. Patrick Cemetery in Fall River.
