Arthur D. Machado, of Fall River, passed away Saturday, after a long battle with cancer. Husband of Idalina "Lee" (Araujo) Machado, with whom he shared 65 years. Born in Fall River, son of the late Louis and Maria (Correia) Machado. A WWII veteran of the US Army, he was a Purple Heart recipient and belonged to the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 9. An avid reader, he was also a member of the Boys and Girls Club and the Holy Ghost Club in Westport. He was the father of Sharon Bell (late husband – Thomas) of Fall River, Deborah Messier (husband – Pierre) of Fall River and Arthur D. Machado, Jr. (wife – Heather) of Windsor, CT; brother of Edmond Machado of Fall River, Gilbert Machado of Florida and the late James and Louis Machado, Alice Costa and Mary Arruda; grandfather of Christine Emond, Jeremy Messier, Jennifer Costa, Adam, Thomas and Tyler Machado; Great grandfather of Benjamin Emond and Dylan Messier; and uncle of several nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, November 28, in Holy Trinity Parish Church followed by his committal with military honors at Notre Dame Cemetery.
