Obituary

Arthur Silva, 88, of Somerset, passed away peacefully at the Somerset Ridge Nursing Center, where he had many special and very dear friends. Loving husband of the late Elsie (Nicholas) Silva, with whom he shared 44 years of marriage. Born in Fall River, son of the late Eliso & Maria (Nazareth) Silva. A World War II veteran of the US Army Air Corps, he was proudly stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska as a military policeman. Watch Repairman & Jewelry Shop owner for over 60 years; Silva's Jeweler's of Pleasant Street, previously Bedford Street, Fall River, founded by his dad Eliso Silva in 1920. A resident of the "Ridge" since 2009, Arthur was known for his quick wit and friendly smile. His family will forever be grateful to the entire staff at the "Ridge" for the loving care he received, as well as to The Guardian Hospice Organization. He was predeceased by his three brothers, Antero "Terry" Silva, Alfred Silva and Anibal Silva. Survivors include his sister, Aida Orr (husband – Ray) of Westport and many nieces and nephews; loving daughter, Judy Moniz (husband – Wayne) of Tiverton and devoted granddaughters Melissa & Debora. He was extremely proud of his son, Joseph Souza of Somerset, Retired MA State Police and his grandson Christopher. His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Thursday, June 6, in St. Christopher Church in Tiverton followed by his committal with military honors at Notre Dame Cemetery.
