Obituary

Augusta (Lopes) Pelletier, 77, of Fall River, widow of John Pelletier, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at St. Anne's Hospital. Born in Viseu, Portugal, a daughter of the late Carlos Lopes DeAlmeida and the late Urania (Camara) DeAlmeida, in 1972 she emigrated to Fall River where she lived most of her life – having also lived in Attleboro for several years in the 1990s.

She earned an advanced degree from SMU (Southeastern Massachusetts University) now UMass Dartmouth and taught at BMC Durfee High School for ten years, retiring in 2000. A parishioner of the former Notre Dame Church, she had also taught CCD there, and was a member of the Our Lady of Light Band Club for many years. A longtime notary public, Augusta also ministered for a number of years as a justice of the peace and took pleasure in officiating at many weddings. Additional interests that Augusta enjoyed were cooking, baking, and art.

In her younger days, Augusta was politically active in her community and served for a time as treasurer for a local democratic organization – she had even run for Fall River School Committee at one time. She was also a host on Radio Voz Do Emigrante.

She is survived by: two siblings, Urania C. Silva and Antonio Lopes both of Fall River; three grandchildren, A. J., Alex, and Andrew; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Angelo C. Lopes; and sister of the late Carlos Lopes.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated Saturday, February 25th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
