Obituary

Auracelia C. Souza, 87, of Westport, wife of the late Manuel B. Souza, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 6, 2020 in the comports of her home after a brief illness. Born in Ajuda Bretanha, São Miguel, Açores, she was the daughter of the Joao and Idalina (Viveiros) Farias.

Prior to her retirement, she worked as a sewing machine operator in the local textile industry for many years. A devout Catholic and long-time parishioner of Our Lady of Grace Church, she was also a member of its Woman's Guild and a proud recipient of the Marian Medal in 2018. Auracelia loved sewing, gardening, flowers, animals, and nature. But what was most important to her was spending quality time with family, especially her grandchildren.

She leaves: her loving children, Caroline B. Pavao and her husband, Octavio, of Dartmouth and Sharon Smith and her husband, Brian, of Tiverton and Patricia Furtado (late husband, Kenneth) of Fall River; six grandchildren, Alisha and Marissa Pavao, Brianne and Lauren Smith, and Kenneth and Kevin Furtado; sisters, Aida Carreiro of Westport, and Maria Cestodio of Fall River; brothers, Evaristo Farias and his wife, Conceicao, and Aires Farias and his wife, Sheila, both of Fall River; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Alice Borba, Laurinda Amorin, Henrique Farias, and Herminio Farias.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, December 12th, at Our Lady of Grace Church in Westport followed by her private committal at Notre Dame Cemetery in Fall River.
