Obituary

Aurelio R. Gouveia, 83, of Somerset, husband of the late Maria C. (Lopes Correia) Gouveia, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Friday, February 9, 2024, after a short illness. Born in Fenais da Luz, St. Michael, Azores, a son of the late Herminio da Silva Gouveia and the late Maria I. (Duarte Reis) Gouveia, he emigrated to Fall River in 1965. Aurelio served in the Portuguese military and worked as a baker on St. Michael.

He was employed for 22 years at Lightolier, formerly of Fall River, retiring in 2002. Aurelio was a member of the Holy Ghost Society and Amigos dos Arrifes. Heavily involved in the Holy Ghost, he always enjoyed volunteering in the annual feast activities. Aurelio was also a member of the Our Lady of Light Band.

He loved to cook, to travel, was a Benfica soccer fan, enjoyed tending his garden and making his homemade wine. Above all, Aurelio loved spending time with and caring for his family, as family was everything to him – the rock on whom they could all depend.

He is survived by: four children, Anna Machado (husband Dinis) of Fall River, John Gouveia (significant other Connie Almeida) of Fall River, David Gouveia (wife Heather) of Somerset, and Sandra Pressley (husband Anthony) of Fall River; a sister, Geraldina Rocha; eight grandchildren, Jessica Martins, Jennifer Gray, Nicholas Gouveia, Katelynn Gouveia, Noah Gouveia, Cole Gouveia, Riley Gouveia, and Lilliana Pressley; eight great grandchildren, Ava Gray, Olivia Gray, Jayden Gray, Isabella Martins, Isaac Martins, Autumn Gouveia, Noelle Gouveia, and Hunter Gouveia; and several nieces and nephews. Aurelio was predeceased by his brother, Eduino Gouveia.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, February 16th, at St. John of God Church in Somerset followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery in Fall River.

Family members are always grateful for relatives and friends wishing to make in-person expressions of kindness and support. If you were unable to do so, because of health concerns or any other reason, all are urged to express their sympathy online or by mail. To ensure that said condolences and/or sympathy cards reach the family, please always make sure that submissions online are made directly through the funeral home's website (www.silvafaria.com) and not through a third party.
