Obituary

Avelino Dinis Oliveira, 87, of Fall River, husband of Maria Angelina (Fernandes) Oliveira, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, October 3, 2021 (after battling a rare blood disorder). Born in Gouveia, Portugal, a son of the late Maria da Conceicao Oliveira and the late Joaquim Dinis, he emigrated to Fall River with his family in 1970.

Employed in the local textile industry, Avelino retired from the former Duro Finishing Co. after 30-plus years of excellent service. He was a devout Catholic and a longtime communicant of Good Shepherd Parish Church. An avid soccer fan, his favorite team was Benfica of Lisbon, Portugal. A loving, kind and generous person, he most enjoyed sharing love with his family.

Besides his wife, of 64 years, who was the love of his life (they were inseparable), he is survived by: a son, William John Oliveira (wife Grace) of Dartmouth; a granddaughter, Nicole Oliveira Nix (husband Theo Nix III) of East Providence, R.I.; a great granddaughter, Gianna Grace Nix; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Henrique Oliveira, Mario Oliveira, Cesar Oliveira, Emilio Oliveira, and Esmeralda Martins (husband Isaac Martins of Fall River).

Special thanks go out to the St. Anne's Hudner Oncology Center staff for their compassionate services, and to AccentCare Home Health for their skilled hospice care and support.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, October 9th, in St. Anthony of Padua Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Avelino's memory to: the Leukemia Foundation 191 Waukegan Road, Suite 105, Northfield, Illinois 60093, 847-424-0600, Donate Now to Help End Blood Cancers - Leukemia Research Foundation (allbloodcancers.org) ; or the American Red Cross, 315 Pleasant St #8, Fall River, MA 02721, 508-676-8276
