Barbara A. Lessard, 82, of Westport, widow of Joseph W. Lessard, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Manuel Leandro and the late Alzira, better known as "Elsie," (Vieira) Leandro, she resided in Westport since the late 1960s and wintered in Florida.
Prior to her retirement in 2007, Barbara was employed for 16 years at BJ's Wholesale Club and she thoroughly enjoyed her job. In the 1970s she worked at United Merchants Midland Print, and in the 1980s she was also a hostess at McGovern's Restaurant.
Barbara enjoyed being a hockey mom, supporting her sons' sporting endeavors, frequenting Seekonk Speedway, and playing Mahjong. She also loved the beach, her time spent in Florida, and shopping at Macy's with her sisters.
She is survived by: one son, David M. Lessard (wife Jennifer) of Westport; two sisters, Pauline Frates of Fall River and Rosemarie Mendes (husband Edward) of Somerset; four grandchildren, Alyson Lessard (husband Brandon), Leah Lessard, Joshua Lessard, and Aaron Lessard; two great grandchildren, Mason and Layla; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Gregory J. Lessard; and a sister of the late George Leandro.
