Beatrice Sanchez Angelo, 97, beloved widow of John Pinto Angelo, died Monday. Born in Fall River, daughter of the late John and Emily Sanchez, she enjoyed music, reading and teaching. An accomplished soprano and violin player, she sang and played on the radio for many years along with the Fall River and New England Symphony Orchestras and the Espirito Santo Church Choir. A featured soloist with the Fall River Opera Group, Mrs. Angelo also sang with two professional groups at the former Somerset Theater. Her political interests prompted her candidacy for City Councilor and State Representative. She enjoyed teaching both English as a second language and citizenship to adults for more than 40 years, much of it voluntarily. Beatrice was honored by the Fall River Chamber of Commerce, O Jornal and the Azorean Cultural Society and was the first female to become Chairman of the Registrar of Voters, president of Our Lady of Light Society and Personnel Director at Shelbourne Shirt Co. In 1975, she founded the annual Candlelight Procession, for which she decorated the Our Lady of Fatima altar with hundreds of flowers. She is survived by her son, John G. Angelo, Esq., his wife Karen, two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews both in the U.S. and Portugal. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, June 22, in Espirito Santo Church followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery.
