Obituary

Berta (Diogo) Medeiros, 89, of Fall River, and previously of Somerset, entered into eternal rest on May 23rd at the Catholic Memorial Home after an extended illness. Treasured widow of Jose S. Medeiros, they shared almost 54 years of marriage before his passing in 2015.

She was the daughter of the late Adelino and Maria (Viveiros) Diogo.  Born in Remedios da Bretanha, Sao Miguel, Acores, she emigrated to Fall River in 1966 and became a proud US citizen in 1978.

She worked in the garment industry for many years, starting at Shelburne Shirt Co. and retiring from Santoro Mfg.  A devout Catholic, she was a former parishioner at Espirito Santo Church and most recently at St. John of God Church.  Berta enjoyed gardening, crocheting, baking and painting.

Berta is survived by her daughters, Maria L. Couto and her husband Richard of Somerset, Ana P. Rebelo of Somerset, and Betty M. Pimentel and her husband Mario of Scottsdale, Arizona.  She was the Avó of Sacha Shabshelowitz and her husband Lewis, Nathan Rebello and his wife Sydney, Sara Ann Pimentel, and Nina Grace Pimentel. She was blessed with her great-grandchildren Levi, Henry, and River.

The youngest, she was predeceased by her siblings, Adelino, Eduardo, Manuel, Luis, and Jose Diogo, and Gilda Medeiros, Maria Ines Da Camara, Sara Medeiros, and Leonor Tavares.  Whether through DNA or marriage, she was Tia Berta to several nieces and nephews.

Berta's family is grateful for the kind and compassionate care that she received during the 8 years that she was a resident at Catholic Memorial Home.  To honor that, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Activities Department, Catholic Memorial Home, 2446 Highland Avenue, Fall River, MA 02720.

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, May 26th, at St. John of God Church in Somerset followed by her committal at St. Patrick Cemetery in Fall River.

Family members are always grateful for relatives and friends wishing to make in-person expressions of kindness and support. If you were unable to do so, because of health concerns or any other reason, all are urged to express their sympathy online or by mail. To ensure that said condolences and/or sympathy cards reach the family, please always make sure that submissions online are made directly through the funeral home's website (www.silvafaria.com) and not through a third party. Thank you!
