Betty Jane "BJ" Benson, age 84, passed away December 4, 2020 in Fall River, MA. She was the daughter of Frances and James Hines and Royce Benson, and sister of Nancy L. Benson (Dover, NH) and the late Edward O. Benson and Ralph R. Benson, sister-in-law of Alix G. Benson (Fall River, MA). In addition to her sisters, Betty is survived by many nephews and nieces.

Born in Middlebury, VT, Betty spent most of her life in Dover, NH and graduated from Dover (NH) High School. Her working life was varied as she managed the Top Value store in Portsmouth, NH, the Music Manor in Dover, NH and had been bookkeeper/office manager of several local businesses in Dover and the area. After retirement she moved to Fall River, MA to be nearer to much of her family.

Betty enjoyed social activities with the Red Hat Society in Fall River, and with the Coastal Singles Club when she was in Dover. She was very committed to the St. Charles Children's Home (now the St. Charles School) in Rochester, NH and Mother Paul Marie.  She also served as a big sister to Brandy and to Harry. She had a deep love for all animals and many dogs and cats were lucky to have had BJ as their person.

In light of the ongoing pandemic, services are omitted at this time.  For those wishing to honor Betty's memory, donations in her name may be made to the St. Charles School, 19 Grant Street, Rochester, NH 03867 or to the Potter League for Animals, 87 Oliphant Lane, Middletown, RI 02842.
