Betty L. Desmarais, 65, of Fall River, wife of Robert W. Desmarais, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2019 after a long illness. Born in Seneca, South Carlolina, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Lela Mae (Holbrook) Turner. Prior to her retirement, she worked at Aberdeen Manufacturing for thirty-four years. Betty loved watching movies with her husband and relished her "quiet" time. She also enjoyed traveling, to such places as Nantucket, the Bahamas, and Las Vegas. Having a strong affection for animals, Betty often would be found feeding and taking care of her many stray cats. But what was most important to Betty was spending quality time with her loving family, especially her grandchildren. She was a very strong woman who fought her illness to the end. Besides her husband of forty-eight  years, she leaves: her daughters, Barbara L. Vieira (late-husband, Altino "Louie" Vieira) of Swansea and Brenda L. Desmarais of Fall River;  her five grandchildren, Vanessa Vieira, Austin Vieira, Elizabeth Desmarais, Evrin Desmarais, and Ebony Desmarais; sisters, Maryann Rochester of Fall River and Jean Barbosa and her husband Mario of Swansea; brothers, Larry Turner and William Turner, both of Taunton; a brother-in -law, Joseph Mello of Fall River; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Emily Mello, who was Betty's twin. Words from her loving husband, Bob: "May God take you into his house and be at peace forever until we meet again, with love for you always". Her funeral arrangements were private. A Memorial Service is being planned for a future date.
