Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Betty Ilene (Manring) Grota, of New Bedford, MA on November 7, 2021 at the age of 87 years.

Born on a farm in Mount Desert Island, Maine, Betty was a natural lover of the outdoors, gardening, and especially animals. Moving to Tiverton, RI when she was only 19, Betty married John Grota of Tiverton, RI in 1956.  Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother (Vavo) and friend.  She was a woman of many artistic passions including oil painting, reading, and creative writing of stories and poem.  She was strong and soft spoken with an enormous heart. The imprint she leaves on those she met will last an eternity.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Rosemarie (Grota) Heroux and her husband Paul, son Thomas C. Grota and his wife Mary-Jo; grandchildren, Michelle Heroux, Elizabeth Heroux, Paul Heroux Jr; Andrew Grota and his wife Kendra,  Matthew Grota, Jennifer Grota. She is also survived by a brother-in-law Lawrence Grota and his wife Mary Ann, and sisters-in-law Ann Marie Grota, Ann Marie Libbert, Gale Manring and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 37 years, John J. Grota; her grandmother (Clora Manring); father (Glenn Manring, Sr.); mother (Anna J. Moniz); and brother (Glenn Manring, Jr.).

Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, November 16th, in Holy Ghost Church followed by her private committal at Pocasset Hill Cemetery, both in Tiverton, RI. Contributions in memory of Betty can be made in the form of a donation to your favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
