Carlos M.
Aguiar
d. Nov 2, 2022
Carlos M. Aguiar, 74, of Fall River, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his devoted children on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, following a near 2-year battle with cancer.
Carlos was born and raised in Sao Miguel, Azores, and was the second eldest son of the late Manuel and Maria do Carmo (Andrade) Aguiar. Following his service with the Portuguese Military, he emigrated to the United States in 1972 to marry his sweetheart, the late Isabel M. (Cabral) Aguiar, with whom he shared 36 years of marriage.
After working many years in the local textile industry, Carlos retired from the former Swan Finishing in 2013. He was an avid soccer fan -- Benfica was his favorite team. He also enjoyed keeping abreast of global news and politics. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and often shared stories of the old country. He was a humble, generous, hard-working father and grandfather who enjoyed the simple things in life.
Carlos is survived by: two children, Steven Aguiar (wife Diane) of Berkley, MA, and Stacey Aguiar (husband David Cavalcante) of Washington, D.C.; three siblings, Antonio Aguiar of Fall River, Filomena Oliveira and Lucia Isidoro both of Sao Miguel, Azores; two granddaughters, Julia Aguiar and Ava Aguiar; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Jose Aguiar of Canada.
His Private Funeral was held on Wednesday, November 9th, with a Funeral Mass at Espirito Santo Church followed by his committal at Notre Dame Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Carlos' memory to the hospice center at the Southcoast Visiting Nurse Association: Southcoast VNA, 200 Mill Road, Suite 120, Fairhaven, MA 02719; 508-973-3200; https://www.southcoast.org/visiting-nurse-association/donate/ .
