Obituary

Carol Ann (DeSantis) Simons, of Somerset, Massachusetts, passed away in her sixty-ninth year of age on Sunday, July 31, 2016, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI, following a brief illness. She was the widow of Roger J. Simons, Sr. Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late John M. DeSantis and the late Rita (Cloutier) DeSantis. A resident of Somerset for most her life, she was employed for many years as a book binder at the Rand McNally plant in Taunton, MA, and also worked as a school bus driver in Berkley, MA. Carol was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Somerset and was president of their Women's Guild for two terms. Our mom was a teacher of young and old from being a school bus driver, CCD teacher, mother and grandmother of 20. She was also quite an athlete at Somerset High School, having lettered in multiple sports. She was a true leader of our family, dedicating her life to us, her friends, and her church. If you ever met Carol, you walked away more positive about yourself and others. We know now she is home with the love of her life, our dad, and still watching over all of us. Surviving family members include her three children; Roger J. Simons and his wife Deb of Providence, RI, Cheryl Simons-Thrasher of Somerset, and Scott A. Simons and his wife Jennifer of Berkley, a brother, John DeSantis of Danbury, New Hampshire, seven grandchildren; Randy Simons, Jake Thrasher, Tyler Thrasher, Ryan Simons, Rebecca Bettencourt, Brittany Reis and Ashley Simons, eleven great grandchildren; Jenna, Tori, Nicole, Sean, Caleb, Connor, Ellie, Sophia, Emma, Nora and Tyler Jr., and several nieces and nephews. Her Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, August 6th, in St. Patrick Church followed by her committal at Nathan Slade Cemetery.
